The Truth About Chlorine and Salt Systems

Chlorine, Bromine, Hydrogen Peroxide (Oxy…Clean), and Pool Salt Sanitizer systems all do the same thing they are oxidizers, they produce oxygen, microscopic single celled organisms are burned alive through their thin cell skin by the high level of oxygen, and oxygen is an Oxidizer, a bleaching agent.
When Hydrogen Peroxide comes in contact with bio material a chemical reaction releases high levels of oxygen that sanitizes and also gently bleaches.
Chlorine (much like the bleach you use for washing your clothes in a very diluted form) and Bromine are both heat and sun activated releasing large amounts of ??? You guessed it oxygen… an oxidizer and bleaching agent.
Now what about the pool salt sanitizer systems… hmmm they tell you it produces chlorine when they sell it to you, now lets think about it, salt (sodium chloride), water, muriatic acid (diluted hydrochloric acid usually around 30%) sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) 2 carbon atoms… a base, now if you combine all this and send it through some high voltage and in the best TV or movie laboratory you still won’t produce chlorine.

OK lets start back at the first basic ingredient "Water" (H2O or for you who need it HOH) 1 atom of oxygen and 2 atoms hydrogen, by themselves just pure water, just water and also a poor conductor of electricity, add enough salt and it becomes a good conductor of electricity… so does acid but it would take enough to burn your skin, but back to basics, salt makes the water conductive, it is now also call treated water which makes your hair feel soft, your skin doesn’t itch and is easier on your bathing clothes.
So now that the water is conductive, send it between the high voltage plates and now the energy passes through the water tearing apart the atoms leaving what… Hydrogen and oxygen in the water the important part oxygen, the same oxygen produced by the other products but in a more gentle way and automated.

. A brand new pool after the initial 30 day "hell month" and initial balancing requires very little chlorine and holds the other levels pretty easy. An old pool that needs resurfacing requires higher levels to maintain clarity and harder to control algae.
